Yeah so I did go to the polling place today. I did go in. I did show my ID. I did grab one of the paper ballots. And then I skipped over the entire front page. That’s the page with all the people’s names on it. I skipped it. Did not even read it. I turned the page over and then read the questions that our elected officials felt needed to be “put to the people”. I did not answer the question about stem cell research. I did not answer the one about tax money for firefighters or something like that.
I answered two questions. One was about adding a 3cent tax to smokes, the other was about putting a lightrail system in KC. I voted yes on both. Here’s why.
The more money smokes cost the less people will be smoking. The fewer people are smoking the fewer times I have to smell it. It’s disgusting…seriously.
The lightrail system would be an amazing addition to Kansas City. I’m a firm believer in public transportation and having an even better system in place would be awesome. i would gladly put tax money towards that type of system.
I did seriously think about voting for the Libertarian candidate but when it came right down to it they didn’t deserve my vote either.

I voted no on the tax on smokes. I mean, have you seen how much a box of cigarrettes cost? 3 more cents doesn’t matter to someone who smokes and it only increases the goverment’s dependence on that revenue. It’s a crutch for the goverment. It’s pathetic.

Pete, you make a good point as to the tax being a crutch for the government. These people need to take a basic course in economics and stop all the waste and crap that is going on.
I do think that smoking is gross and bad for the public and we should not legislate morality, but I do not want anyone smoking around me so the fewer people that do it the happier I am.
And honestly, smoking is killing us. So how do we cut down on it? Education? Well we see how well the “just say no” thing worked.
